Artsy, breezy setting to relax and enjoy great food.
El Jefe Burger Shack, set up by Tim and Cheri
Blackford, a couple from the U.S.mainland who fell in
love with Puerto Rico and moved here in 2006, makes
the journey to Luquillo worthwhile. As experienced
veterans of the food and hospitality business, they
dreamed about a “burger shack” on the beach, with
cool ocean breezes and a laid-back attitude.
Cheri, an artist, decorated the kiosk with bright
murals and a crayon message wall. The beachfront
backyard is set up with mpsaic cement tables and
umbrellas. Tiny tin buckets serve as coolers, shot
glasses and as decorations. In this pleasant atmosphere,
you can enjoy flame-grilled chuck steak burgers served
on freshly baked buns, along with hand-cut fries or beer
battered onion wedges. Try the house specialty: El Jefe
stuffed burgers -- stuffed with beer braised shortribs,
Spanish chorizo or their firecracker blend of green chiles
and jalapenos.Tim, by the way, prepares a memorable
margarita as well.
